A Facelift for the Future Guest Room

1. This was our bedroom until we started on the remodel and had to move out. Because the upstairs addition was being built on top of what was once just a flat roof, we had to tear out the entire ceiling. See picture three in “Preparing for the Upstairs Addition”. First, we protected the oak floors by laying down Kraft paper, as seen in this picture.

2. Next we built a platform to store all of our stuff.

3. And then we demolished the sheet rock and insulation on the ceiling.

4. Drywall dust is disgusting!

5. Pictures one through four were taken in early June of 2005. This picture is from the first of March 2006. We’ve taken down the rest of the sheetrock and insulation, and we’re ready to tackle the window situation. Notice that the windows are different sizes? The one on the left is a 3×3, and the bigger one is a 5×5. Well, the big one has got to go. In the laundry room next door, there is another 3×3, which is on the same plain as the 5×5. You’d never know it from the inside, but from the exterior it looks strange.

6. New windows in, and the sheetrock on.

7. From the exterior… The window on the right is the future guest room, the one on the left the laundry room, and the window upstairs belongs to the new master bedroom.

8. The finished product. Well, without the trim. And the floors haven’t been redone… I swear, the work never ends. But hey, we finished this entire room, including electrical, heating, windows, sheetrock, insulation etc. in about a month!
