Demo Time!
Here are a few shots from our current projects: the living room, the kitchen, and the cantilever (built to expand the dining area).
The living room after removing the old sheetrock, which someone had hung in double layers with few screws. And why the spotty insulation??
The kitchen after demolition.
An electrical junction box found in the kitchen. […]

Laundry Room
This first picture is of the laundry room right after we started its addition. As you can see, it was half the size or less, which made it just big enough for a stacked washer and dryer and a freezer, or a side by side washer and dryer, had cracked and uneven concrete floors, a […]

Master Bath in all its (almost) final glory
We moved into our addition in early June and I haven’t updated our progress since then. I hope to do that in the following weeks, but for now, take a look at our master bath in its (almost) finished stage. What’s left to do? Sew the curtains and order glass for the shower. Now, onto […]

Floors
They’re in, and refinished! Which means we’re that much closer to moving into our new master suite! It also means that I will soon have a real office again…
We had quite a time with these floors. The original flooring upstairs was old-growth fir, and when we built the addition, we struggled with whether or not […]

More Finishing Touches
How many finishing touches can there possibly be in a house? I don’t know. Are we done yet. No. But the master bath is really close. I say that, but there is still window trim to finish (it’s all cut; the paint is drying) as well as trim around the door and floor. There is […]

Finishing Touches
We passed our final electrical and building inspections in mid December!! This does NOT mean the house is done. Unfortunately. What it means is everything functions–the plumbing, electrical, heating, gutters, smoke detectors, etc. What’s left? Hard wood flooring, tile in the laundry room, built-ins, all the trim work around the windows and doors, floors and […]

Stairs
At time of purchase: April 2003
Looking up:
Looking down:
The stairs between up and downstairs were separated by walls and a door. The treads were too small for even my feet, and people taller than 5′6′’ hit their head on the wall dropping down a quarter of the way up. They were painted fir, and very weak. […]

Master Bath on its Way!
Vanity area. The sinks are undermount, and will, eventually, sit below a 2 1/2 inch slab of stained concrete.
Pretty self-explanatory, but this is the toilet. It’s sooo nice to have two in the house!
Tub area. Eventually, this hole behind it will be an inset shelf, where we can stock candles and wine glasses and other […]

Progress in the Master Suite
It’s painted! Now comes all those trim items–wrapping the collar ties, putting in electrical outlets, installing doors, not to mention flooring. But hey, it’s painted!
Tub and shower area. Picture 2 is top of shower, picture 3 is bottom.
Picture 1 is toilet stall. Picture 2 is sink […]

My Future Office
When we bought the house in April of 2003, my office looked like this:
The walls were not drywall/sheetrock/gypsum board/whatever name you personally use, but some sort of paper product. Very weird. And there wasn’t a closet. Lots of attic storage, but no closet. And look how low and funky the ceilings were. Gag. But now […]
